Book Launch Black Activist, Black Scientist, Black Icon with George Elliott Clarke

February 8 @ 10:30 pm - February 9 @ 1:30 am UTC

Please join us for the launch of Black Activist, Black Scientist, Black Icon: The Autobiography of Dr. Howard D. Mccurdy, by Dr. Howard D. McCurdy with George Elliott Clarke.

Dr. Howard D. McCurdy was a civil rights activist, a politician, a scientist, a university professor, and a Member of Parliament. The first person of African descent to hold a tenure-track position in a Canadian university, he founded and was President of the Canadian College of Microbiologists, co-founded and was president of the National Black Coalition of Canada, and was Canada’s second Black Member of Parliament.

Author Lindsay Ruck will moderate a panel discussion featuring former Poet Laureate George Elliott Clarke, Senator Don Oliver, Minister Tony Ince, and former MLA Yvonne Atwell. They will discuss Dr. McCurdy’s legacy in the context of Black Canadian political and public life, and its attendant joys and pressures.
