Coast Lines with Anne Budgell (BA’95)

July 27, 2022 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm America/St_Johns

Journalist, author and alumna Anne Budgell (BA’95)’s Dear Everybody: A woman’s journey from Park Avenue to a Labrador Trapline is the current Coast Lines book club selection!

In 1947, Manhattan socialite Barbara Mundy left a life of privilege and travelled deep into the interior of Labrador, as a volunteer with the Grenfell Mission, later finding love with a fur trapper.

Anne Budgell worked with CBC radio and television in Newfoundland and Labrador for over thirty years. Her interest in Labrador history was encouraged by her mother, the daughter of a fur trapper; and her father, the son of a Hudson’s Bay Company factor.

On July 6, join Anne, Coast Lines host and current PhD candidate Angela Antle (BA ’91) and special guest Dr. Ashlee Cunsolo, founding dean of the School of Arctic and Subarctic Studies at the Labrador Campus as they discuss the social history of Labrador and art of non-fiction writing.

This event takes place from 7:30 – 8:30 p.m. NT, 7 – 8 p.m. in Labrador.

UPDATE: Unfortunately, Dr. Cunsolo is unable to join us this evening, however, we are thrilled to have Mina Campbell joining us. Mina is an Inuk artist from North West River, Labrador. She has worked as the curator of the Labrador Interpretation Centre, a cultural centre representing Labrador’s cultures, since 1998. She was raised by her grandparents, who instilled in her their traditional heritage and lifestyle. She practises many traditional hunting, fishing and land-based activities, and she is interested in teaching and passing on her skills while continuing to learn more.
