TOO FUNNY: COMEDY SHOW with Ali Hassan, Clifton Cremo & Meg MacKay

September 15, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm America/Halifax

TOO FUNNY: COMEDY SHOW WITH ALI HASSAN, CLIFTON CREMO & MEG MACKAY. HOSTED BY SHAWN HOGAN!

That’s right, folks! After the glowing success of last year’s show the Wild Threads Literary Festival is bringing comedy BACK! Our “Too Funny” comedy show will be hosted again by the PEI Writers’ Guild’s own Shawn Hogan, and feature special guests, including:
Clifton Cremo, a Mi’kmaw stand-up comedian hailing from Cape Breton who you may have seen on CBC’s Halifax Comedy Festival or heard him on Just For Laughs Originals on Sirius XM.
Meg MacKay is a comedian and comedy writer trying her best. As a TV writer, she wrote for Baroness von Sketch and was a staff writer for famed Canadian comedy show This Hour has 22 Minutes. Her album Probably a Witch is available on Howl and Roar Records.
As if that isn’t enough, the show will be capped off with a headlining performance by none other than national comedic treasure, Ali Hassan! Ali is the host of CBC’s hit stand-up comedy show Laugh Out Loud, a frequent guest-host of CBC Radio’s national flagship arts and culture show “q”, and for the past six consecutive years has hosted Canada Reads – the annual battle of the books celebrating the best of Canadian literature. He has made numerous appearances at every major comedy festival there is to name, but for one night only will be at The Guild for this year’s Wild Threads!
Presenter Bios:
Ali Hassan is a Stand-up Comic and Actor who has performed for audiences across Canada and internationally. Ali is the host of CBC’s hit stand-up comedy show Laugh Out Loud, a frequent guest-host of CBC Radio’s national flagship arts and culture show “q”, and for the past six consecutive years, Ali has hosted Canada Reads – the annual battle of the books celebrating the best of Canadian literature. Previously, Ali was the lead comedy panelist on George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight, recording over 160 episodes with the show.
Clifton Cremo began his career in stand-up comedy four years ago and has been entertaining Canadian audiences with his deft brand of storytelling and wry absurdism ever since. Clifton’s perspective on his Mi’kmaw upbringing and his unique outlook on First Nations issues brought him national attention by showing that no matter the divisiveness of an issue, humor can be a common ground. Clifton was recently part of Rise Together with host Ron James – a Hurricane Fiona fundraiser that raised over $100,000 for the Cape Breton Red Cross. Clifton has also appeared at the Halifax Comedy Festival for CBC television in 2022 and 2023 in addition to being a part of their Best of the Fest tour in 2021. Clifton has also appeared on CBC radio’s Laugh Out Loud. In March of this year, he recorded with Just For Laughs Originals as part of a compilation album scheduled to be released this summer.
Meg MacKay is a comedian and comedy writer trying her best. As a TV writer, she wrote for Baroness von Sketch and was a staff writer for famed Canadian comedy show This Hour has 22 Minutes. Her album Probably a Witch is available on Howl and Roar Records.
Shawn Hogan originates from Mill River, Prince Edward Island, and has produced and starred in dozens of sold out comedy shows across his home province. Over the last 10 years he has performed and lived in Toronto, where he created, produced, and hosted the Hangover Cure Comedy Show, one of Toronto’s most successful & unique comedy shows which recently made its debut at the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival. Shawn has made consecutive national television appearances as part of the Halifax Comedy Festival, has been a featured comedian on CBC Radio’s “Laugh Out Loud”, and most recently was hand picked to open for Gerry Dee in front of a sold out crowd at the Confederation Centre of the Arts.
