POETRY: THE MOST ACCESSIBLE ART FORM

September 15, 2023 @ 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm America/Halifax

POETRY: THE MOST ACCESSIBLE ART FORM – A PANEL WITH BREN SIMMERS, TANYA DAVIS & EBERICHI OKWUWOLU

In 2019 at the first Wild Threads, George Elliott Clarke called poetry “the most accessible art form”. Join CBC’s Poetry Prize Winner and author Bren Simmers, poet Eberechi Okwuwolu, and PEI’s Poet Laureate, Tanya Davis, as we explore where the breath of poetry begins, where the art form can take us, and how rhythm and pace can carry our words along, even when we’re not sure where exactly we might be going.

Presenter Bios:
Bren Simmers is the author of four books, most recently If, When (Gaspereau Press, 2021). She is the winner of the CBC Poetry Prize and The Malahat Review Long Poem Prize. Her poetry collection Spell ‘World’ Backwards is forthcoming in 2024. She lives on Epekwitk (PEI).
Eberechi Okwuwolu is an entrepreneur, podcaster, and interdisciplinary artist who currently resides in PEI. Eberechi believes that hard work is essential to achieving our dreams and becoming the person we want to be. Eberechi uses art therapy as a tool to explore different forms of self-expression and the connections we make as we share our emotions and thoughts with others. For Eberechi, stories are a form of language and identification, and he believes that by telling our stories, we can connect with others on a deeper level. He is passionate about sharing and growing. Learning and teaching are critical parts of his daily routine, allowing him to appreciate the world around him more deeply. He is grateful for this journey so far and looks forward to navigating the ups and downs of life.
Tanya Davis is an interdisciplinary artist based in rural Epekwitk. She creates for the page, the stage, the stereo, and the screen and is PEI’s current Poet Laureate.
