Shyla Augustine is from Elsipogtog First Nation and is currently attending St. Thomas University’s Bachelor of Education program, after completing her Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Native Studies.
Having family in both Nova Scotia and New Brunswick communities, she has chosen a traditional language style which includes a blend of regional spelling and choice of words.
Inspired by the curiosity from her children, and those at the UNB Children’s Centre volunteer program, paired with their thirst for story-based knowledge of Indigenous culture, Shyla has committed to apply the Mi’kmaq knowledge she has and is learning, to give back to her community and future generations. Wela’lin!
