The source of the legend is Soulis (Suley) Joe, and the precious metal trapped in the vein is silver. Along the <st1:street w:st= »on »><st1:address w:st= »on »>Trans-Canada Highway</st1:address></st1:street> in <st1:state w:st= »on »>Newfoundland</st1:state>, just west of the turnoff to <st1:city w:st= »on »>Benton</st1:city>, is a brook called Soulis Brook, which flows out of Soulis Pond, the second major pond named after Soulis Joe, an intrepid explorer whose name is recorded for all time on old <st1:place w:st= »on »><st1:state w:st= »on »>Newfoundland</st1:state></st1:place> maps.<?xml:namespace prefix= »o » ns= »urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office » /><o:p></o:p></p>
