Join us for free writing workshops for youth aged 16-24 as part of the Frye Festival’s Writers In the Community series.
Wednesday, April 26, 5pm: Jon Claytor, author/illustrator of the graphic novel Take the Long Way home. In Take the Long Way Home, Claytor explores alcoholism, love, and family through heart- rending vignettes and expressive linework. This is the story of a man who unpacks a difficult past, only to discover that even at his lowest point, he was never truly alone.
Thursday, April 27, 5pm: Eli Tarequ El Bechelany-Lynch, author of The Good Arabs. Eli Tareq El Bechelany-Lynch is a queer Arab poet living in Tio’tia:ke, unceded Kanien’kehá:ka territory (Montreal). Their work has appeared in The Best Canadian Poetry 2018 anthology, GUTS, carte blanche, the Shade Journal, The New Quarterly, Arc Poetry Magazine, Room Magazine, and elsewhere. They participated in the Banff Centre’s ‘Centering Ourselves’ BIPOC residency, and they were longlisted for the CBC poetry prize in 2019.
