Book Launch: The Tenant Class, By Ricardo Tranjan

CCPA-Nova Scotia, in partnership with Medical Humanities at Dalhousie University, and Equity Watch, is hosting a book launch of The Tenant Class. Join us Tuesday, September 20th, when we will be joined by author, Ricardo Tranjan and local panelists to be confirmed.

Tranjan is a political economist and senior researcher with the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives (CCPA). In The Tenant Class, Tranjan asks the question, What if there is no housing crisis, but instead a housing market working exactly as intended? This book has been described as a “trailblazing manifesto in which Ricardo Tranjan breaks down pervasive myths about renters, mom-and-pop landlords, and housing affordability. Drawing upon a long, inspiring history of collective action in Canada, Tranjan argues that organized tenants have the power to fight back.” Join us!

Author Bio: Ricardo Tranjan is a political economist and senior researcher with the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives. Previously, Tranjan managed Toronto’s Poverty Reduction Strategy and taught at universities in Ontario and Quebec. His early academic work focused on economic development and participatory democracy in Brazil, his native country. His current research is on the political economy of social policy in Canada. Ricardo holds a PhD from the University of Waterloo, where he was a Vanier Scholar. A frequent media commentator in English and French, he lives in Ottawa.

This event is taking place on Kijipuktuk in Mi’kma’ki, the unceded, unsurrendered ancestral land of the Mi’kmaq people. We also recognize the 400+ years of history of communities of African descent and the 50 African Nova Scotian communities throughout the region today. We commit to actions that will move the work of truth, reconciliation, justice and equity forward.
