Atlantic Book Awards: Indigenous Voices Panel Discussion

Please join us for a special presentation by nominees for this year’s Atlantic Book Awards.

June is National Indigenous History Month, a time to recognize and honour the rich history, heritage, resilience and diversity of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples across Canada.

Authors Mi’sel Joe and Sheila O’Neill (My Indian), Rebecca Thomas (Swift Fox All Along), and Jodie Callaghan (The Train) will come together to discuss Oral history, and the importance of Indigenous people telling their own stories. This online panel will be hosted by Kelly Anne Butler, Indigenous Education Specialist at Memorial University of Newfoundland.

“My Indian” by Mi’sel Joe and Sheila O’Neill is nominated for the Atlantic Publishers Marketing Association Best Atlantic Published Book Award, and both “Swift Fox All Along” by Rebecca Thomas and “The Train” by Jodie Callaghan are nominated for the Ann Connor Brimer Award for Atlantic Canadian Children’s Literature.

Presented in partnership with Newfoundland and Labrador Public Libraries and Atlantic Book Award Festival 2022.
