I am a descendant of the 400 year-long distinct ethnogenesis of the mixed-race African slave Diaspora from Nova Scotia and the Eastern Seaboard. I am a multimedia artist, writer and researcher with a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Communications majoring in Journalism from the University of Winnipeg. My writing focuses on issues of race, the perception of race and the evolution and changing perceptions of race in a Canadian and global context. This decades long pursuit, bordering on obsession, culminated in publishing a book of poetry that challenged the dominant narrative of Canadian history being solely Euro and Indigenous centric. Some of my work has been published in a special issue of Prairie Fire magazine and recently included in “The Black Prairie Archives: An Anthology.”
