Lunenburg Literary Festival Will Take Place In-Person
The fifth annual Lunenburg Literary Festival – known as Lunenburg Lit – will proceed with in-person events September 24-26, 2020. This year, Lunenburg Lit will feature ten authors, all from within the Atlantic bubble.
South Shore Public Libraries, organizers of the festival, have revised plans to ensure Lunenburg Lit complies with all Nova Scotia Health Protection orders. Changes include limiting numbers of guests per event, ensuring physical distancing at events, collecting contact information for contact tracing, and mandating mask-wearing.
“We’re thrilled to be hosting our 5th annual Lit Festival in Lunenburg. Unlike many other Festivals this fall, our event will be live and in-person,” says South Shore Public Libraries CEO Troy Myers.
“We’ve always prided ourselves on being an intimate gathering of readers and writers on the South Shore and we are confident that our COVID-19 Protocols will ensure safety while providing an enjoyable literary experience.”
Held at locations throughout the UNESCO World Heritage Site, including the Lunenburg School of the Arts and the Lunenburg Academy, the literary festival showcases the cultural diversity, architectural history, and natural beauty of the town and region.
Events begin on Thursday, September 24, with a kid’s event by young-adult author and Governor General’s Literary Award Finalist Jo Treggiari. On Thursday evening, 16 emerging authors will pitch their book-in-progress to Nova Scotian publishers in the “Pitch the Publisher” event.
Friday evening features journalist and fiction writer Chris Benjamin, whose new short story collection is called Boy With A Problem; poet and critical writer Virginia Konchan; and Carol Bruneau, whose most recent novel Brighten the Corner Where You Are is based on the life of Maud Lewis.
Saturday, September 25 features a literary walk through Old Town Lunenburg hosted by Librarian and local folklore buff Ashlee Feener.
The annual non-fiction panel on Saturday afternoon explores the craft of writing and publishing non-fiction. This year’s panel includes historical writer John Langley; Bobbi-Jean MacKinnon, author of Shadow of a Doubt: The Trial of Dennis Oland; and Philip Moscovitch, author of Adventures in Bubbles and Brine.
Lunenburg Lit concludes Saturday evening with William Kowalski, author of fourteen internationally acclaimed novels; Christy Ann Conlin, whose latest book Watermark offers a collection of North Atlantic Gothic; and Genevieve Graham, best-selling author of The Forgotten Home Child.
Tickets can be purchased at any branch of South Shore Public Libraries, at Block Shop Books, Lunenburg Bound or by phone at 902-543-2548. Ticket prices: $20 for each evening event or $50 for an all-event pass.
