National Poetry Month
April 2014 marks the 16th anniversary of National Poetry Month, which was established in Canada by the League of Canadian Poets. National Poetry Month brings together schools, publishers, booksellers, literary organizations and poets from across the country to celebrate poetry and its vital place in Canada’s culture. It also celebrates libraries and the work of mayors and municipalities to promote literacy and reading. Communities and businesses across the country participate through readings, festivals, book displays and other events, incorporating the theme of Poetry City.
