Robert J. Morgan [1938-2011] devoted his life to Cape Breton, serving as Senior Historia at the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Park, Director of the Beaton Institute archives and Professor of History at Cape Breton University. A founder of the Old Sydney Society and St. Patrick’s Church Museum, Dr. Morgan fought to preserve local heritage properties. Bob was prepared to go anywhere to speak in defense of Cape Breton heritage, and he was noted for the clarity and passion with which he kept the island's history alive. His book Early Cape Breton: From Founding to Famine is a combination of his articles and conversations.
