This year, the King’s community has free access to a collection of Atlantic Canadian accessible ebooks and audiobooks through Books by Heart, a program being tested for a Nova Scotia Health hospital department (BooksByHeartKings.ca). Through this program, we’re also exploring opportunities to learn about other areas of digital accessibility, such as social media. This is part 2 of our webinar series on social media accessibility. If you missed part 1, feel free to email us for the video link!

In part 1, we covered the difference between alt text and an image description, and how to design more accessible visuals. But what about audio and video? In this session we’ll cover the accessibility basics of both, going over topics like:

-Tips and tricks for creating and adding captions to videos on different platforms
-Differences between a video description, video transcript, and audio description
-How to make Tik Tok trends more accessible
-Types of content warnings needed for videos

And so much more! Together we’ll make sure our videos can be enjoyed by everyone from a person watching with the sound turned off, to someone who is d/Deaf or hard of hearing, to someone who has a visual impairment. Accessibility matters!

To request access to the video for part 1, email bbh.ukc@gmail.com
