Do you struggle with your mental health? Do you struggle to get words on the page? In this afternoon workshop, put your ideas and struggles into poetry using writing prompts, conversation, and the workshop format. Join acclaimed poet Triny Finlay—whose recent book ???????????????????????? ???? ???????????????????????????????????? (Goose Lane, 2021) details her experiences with mental illnesses, stigma, and psych ward life—as we navigate the challenging and innovative terrain of healing ourselves through poetry.

Triny Finlay is a queer poet, writer, teacher, and mother.

Her latest book, ???????????????????????? ???? ???????????????????????????????????? (Goose Lane, 2021), explores her experiences with mental illnesses, their treatments, and stigma. She is also the author of the critically-acclaimed books ???????????????????????????????????? ???????????? (Nightwood, 2004) and ???????????????????????????????????? ???????????????????? ???????? (Nightwood, 2010), along with the chapbooks ???????????? ????????????’???? ???????????????? ???????????????? ????’???????? ???????????? (Junction, 2018) and ???????????????????????? (Gaspereau, 2006). Her writing has also appeared in anthologies and journals such as Breathing Fire 2: Canada’s New Poets, The Fiddlehead, Grain, The London Reader, The Malahat Review, Marsh Blue Violet: A Queer New Brunswick Anthology, and Plenitude. Triny Finlay’s creative work intersects with her research and teaching interests, which include creative writing, contemporary Canadian literatures, poetics, the long poem, genre theory, and gender and sexuality in literature.

She lives in Fredericton, NB, where she teaches English and Creative Writing at the University of New Brunswick.
