Maxine Tynes lived, studied, and worked all of her life in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Her heritage goes back to the time of the Black Loyalists in Nova Scotia. Maxine graduated from Dalhousie University in Halifax, was a member of the board of governors at Dalhousie, and was the first Black Nova Scotian to hold this appointment.
