The source of the legend is Soulis (Suley) Joe, and the precious metal trapped in the vein is silver. Along the <st1:street w:st=”on”><st1:address w:st=”on”>Trans-Canada Highway</st1:address></st1:street> in <st1:state w:st=”on”>Newfoundland</st1:state>, just west of the turnoff to <st1:city w:st=”on”>Benton</st1:city>, is a brook called Soulis Brook, which flows out of Soulis Pond, the second major pond named after Soulis Joe, an intrepid explorer whose name is recorded for all time on old <st1:place w:st=”on”><st1:state w:st=”on”>Newfoundland</st1:state></st1:place> maps.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office” /><o:p></o:p></p>
