Staff Picks: Chris Benjamin

Staff Picks: Chris Benjamin

The Atlantic Publishers Marketing Association presents staff picks! This week we will be featuring a different staff pick each day. Here's what we're reading and our favourite books in the Time to #ReadAtlantic Collection.

Starting off with Chris Benjamin who is the managing editor of Atlantic Books Today magazine. Chris is the author of three award-winning, critically-acclaimed books: Indian School Road: Legacies of the Shubenacadie Residential School; Eco-Innovators: Sustainability in Atlantic Canada and Drive-by Saviours; as well as several short stories in anthologies and journals.

Astute observers will note that Chris is actually reading the Mi'kmaq Anthology Volume 2. He liked the anthology so much he's onto the second volume.

Chris' Pick:

The Mi'kmaq Anthology

"The Mi'kmaq exposed me to the wealth of great Mi'kmaq literary talent, exposed me to ideas specific to the original culture of the place I call home, educated me about their history as well as contemporary issues, and moved me with powerful verse and prose. I read it years ago on a bus trip. I can't remember where I was going or what I was doing, but I brought along the anthology and became totally immersed in it, wished I could go straight home on the same bus so I could keep reading. I'd recommend this book to all adult readers in Atlantic Canada."

The Mi'kmaq Anthology is a varied and spiritual collection of work by the Mi'kmaq writers of Atlantic Canada. Both young and old stories and storytellers combine talents to produce short stories, poetry, and personal essays.
